John Weiss 'Hot Chocolate'
I enjoy painting animals to which people can relate, says John Weiss. They are a familiar, part of our everyday life we understand and enjoy. While searching through reference materials, I came across an image of a friends Chocolate Labrador.Theyre amazing little creatures during their puppy stage and I tried to capture that special time in their lives by going for a natural look that makes you feel you can reach out and pet the dog.Weiss has accomplished just that in this warm and charming portrait.

John Weiss 'True Companions'
John is known nationally as the foremost portrait artist of the canine species. His intimate observation of the animal has evolved into an insight into our relationships with them and even ourselves. And, in the case of this particular painting, himself. True Companions is an homage to his Labrador retriever, Maggie. Though John does not paint himself into his own work, we are observing a common occurrence in his own backyard. While the two seem to be basking in the warmth and amber glow of the evening's fire, is it possible that something else deflects the night's chill? In the company of his steadfast companion, a moment that could be considered full of loneliness becomes one of magic. Published from the artist's original oil painting
