Dean Morrissey 'Anna Of The Celts'
Dean Morrissey 'Anna Of The Celts'
During medieval times in the Celtic world, Christianity may have been on the rise but many held onto their beliefs in traditional gods and goddesses. Anna was the figure they looked toward to protect them in battle. She represented loyalty, purity of spirit, and courage of conviction.

Battle was often waged by very loyal, bands of knights against marauding invaders, such as the Vikings or Normans. It was believed that those who died valiantly in battle would be escorted by Anna to the next world. A

fallen king's targ (or shield) in hand and claymore (sword) nearby, Anna awaits her new charges.

Scott Gustafson 'Pegasus and the Muses'
Scott Gustafson 'Pegasus and the Muses'
Scott Gustafson's art is filled with characters, myths and fables many of us met in our childhoods. Pegasus and the Muses is an enchanting interpretation of a Greek legend. Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom, was the first to discover the winged stallion Pegasus, who was the son of Medusa and Poseidon. Athena tamed the horse, and gave him to the Muses of Mt. Helicon as a gift.
In his excitement at meeting the Muses, Pegasus struck the side of the mountain with his hooves, which caused water to well up and form a spring that would become known as the Hippocrene. Springs were sacred sources of inspiration for those who sought help from the Muses. If they were truly fortunate, perhaps they would also be allowed to soar through the clouds on the Muses' beloved pet, Pegasus.
As the flying horse of the Muses, Pegasus is a symbol of high-flying poetic imagination. Following in Gustafson's tradition of The Maiden and the Unicorn and The Pirate and the Mermaid, the artist's Pegasus and the Muses will undoubtedly inspire flights of fancy for collectors young and old.

Scott Gustafson 'The Pirate and the Mermaid'
Scott Gustafson 'The Pirate and the Mermaid'
"Of all mythical creatures, mermaids are perhaps the most alluring and mysterious," Scott says. "They embody feminine beauty while remaining elusive and unobtainable. They appeal to both women and men, much like the pirate. The pirate has become a potent symbol in recent mythology (say, the last few hundred years). One need only see the skull and crossbones to unlock a treasure chest of images filled with daring and adventure. This painting is a glimpse into the lives of a couple poised between two worlds, something we less mythological beings are familiar with, too."

Dean Morrissey 'A Christmas Carol'
Dean Morrissey 'A Christmas Carol'
Scrooge was a miser. His money was his life. Then, one Christmas Eve, Scrooge received a trio of visitors who showed him not only the true meaning of Christmas, but the true meaning of life. Morrissey's painting depicts London, circa 1843, when Dickens first published the story. The offices of Scrooge and Marley are in fact the pub in the city where Dickens reportedly did a great deal of writing. As Scrooge leaves for home on that fateful Christmas Eve he seemingly heads away from the light and joy of the holiday represented by both the carolers and a Father Christmas further down the street. Yet, these are actually his first steps towards redemption. This is a piece art destined to become one of your family's Christmas heirlooms and holiday traditions.

Scott Gustafson 'Daniel in the Lion´s Den'
Scott Gustafson 'Daniel in the Lion´s Den'
Like children's stories, Bible stories teach us lessons about life. "I grew up in a small town and attended a Lutheran grade school where I was taught many Bible stories at a very early age," says artist Scott Gustafson. "I think of my approach to my artwork as a form of storytelling; and although most of my work to date has been illustrating fairy tales, nursery rhymes and other forms of literature, it all really comes down to telling a story in pictures.
The story of Daniel is about a man who is punished for his beliefs by a king who was swayed by vanity and bad advice. But Daniel is also the story of true faith in the face of death and of a man who had the strength of his convictions. I chose to depict Daniel standing in a pool of mysterious light. Behind and around him, lions lurk in the shadows-nearly brushing his robes as they pace to and fro.Yet, these ravenous beasts dare not lay a single paw on the seemingly vulnerable figure who stands in their midst. In these turbulent times, the story of Daniel seems very appropriate. For although his faith is the reason he was thrown to the lions, it was also Daniel's faith that ultimately saved him."

Dean Morrissey 'The Lightship'
Dean Morrissey 'The Lightship'
As Dean Morrissey shows us, the inhabitants of the his "Great Kettles" book series have a far greater impact on our world than we could imagine. The Spring Solstice, for instance, is when the cool Beacon of Winter is replaced with the warm Summer Sun. Designed to bring about lighter, longer days, it is the job of the Lantern Keeper, Maura Bump, and her vessel the Lightship to see that the golden amber ball is fixed radiantly in the sky and that the long-awaited Spring arrives.

James Christensen 'Saint with White Sleeves'
James Christensen 'Saint with White Sleeves'
Behold the latest discovery from James C. Christensen's Saints and Angels collection, a series he attributes to his alter-ego, an obscure Flemish painter known as The Master of the Enoch Altarpiece. Fine Art Limited Editions from the Saints and Angels collection include Isabella and The Enoch Altarpiece.
The subject of Saint with White Sleeves does not appear to be a specific saint, and the model for this striking portrait was likely one of the Master's patrons. It was customary at the time for the wealthy to request that their portraits incorporate characteristics of saints or angels. In Saint with White Sleeves, the halo suggests a saint, yet the white sleeves hint at angel's wings.
