Don Crowley ' Prayer to the Morning Sun'
Don Crowley ' Prayer to the Morning Sun'
Known for his detailed realism and complex designs, Don Crowley's artwork sits at the apex of many painter's and collector's wish lists. In Prayer to the Morning Sun, Crowley depicts a Paiute maiden in her Morning Prayer ritual using eagle feathers as totem. "When I was growing up the only thing I knew about Indians came from movies and magazines. It was all unrelentingly negative and simplistic," Crowley says. "As an adult I realized these were a people forced to the brink of extinction and that their story was a true tragedy. I have learned to care about the customs of their everyday life and the beauty of their sacred ceremonies. It is this essence of Indian life I bring to my art."

Howard Terpning 'Offerings To Sun'
Howard Terpning 'Offerings To Sun'
The spiritual nature of Plains Indians led them to have holy places to which they could go to commune with those spirits that guided their lives or to feel close to what some called the Sure-Enough Father. Native American friends took the artist to such a place on the Blackfeet Reservation south of Browning, Montana. For generations and generations, the Blackfeet had been going into the woods and attaching small offerings to tree trunks and branches. In earlier times these would have been such rarities as eagle feathers or ermine tails or medicine bundles containing items of religious significance. In modern times swatches of cloth are an accepted substitute, respectfully maintaining the custom of ancestors. (We think the dappled woodland setting makes this image distinctive and particularly lovely among Terpning's body of work.)

James Bama 'Buck Norris - Cross Sabres Ranch'
James Bama 'Buck Norris - Cross Sabres Ranch'
"Wyoming, the Cowboy State, conjures images of wide open spaces, cattle ranches, wild mustangs and rugged men in boots and Stetsons," says artist James Bama."I had known Buck Norris for many years, he was a strong, quiet man who worked with his parents, owners of the oldest ranch on the North Fork of the Shoshone River west of Cody. The day I finally visited this cowboy and trapper to use him as a model, it
snowed three feet. With the snow filling up the corral around him, he carried the tools of his trade: a leather saddle fitted with saddle bags, fringe-decorated bridle, coiled lariat and silver-dollar size spurs. These, the clothes on his back, and, of course, his horse, were sometimes the only possessions a cowboy of the Old West owned."

Don Crowley 'Ripples'
Don Crowley 'Ripples'
Late afternoon, approaching sundown, is "the magic time" for any painter. When the subject is placed in the hands of Don Crowley, one of the leading western artists working today,"magic" seems too unimpressive a word. The light is just right and the hush upon the hills is palatable. "Ripples," says Crowley is,"one of those wonderful and beautiful sunset scenes where the only sounds are the horse's hooves in the water and the staccato cadence of crickets across the pond."
Known for his precise, detailed realism and often complicated designs, Crowley sits at the apex of many a fine art painter's and collector's wish list.

Howard Terpning 'Crossing At The Ford'
Howard Terpning 'Crossing At The Ford'
Howard Terpning's respect for his subject matter evokes emotion both in his paintings and from those viewing them, have made him one of the most lauded painters of Western art.
In his latest original, this "Storyteller of the Native American" has created a stunning vision of three Crow Indians as they begin to cross a river.

"These three Crows are part of a war party in search of their enemy," Howard says. "Knowing how to find the ford in a river is a big advantage and this is a skill that comes naturally to these three plains Indians."

This new Terpning image will be printed on textured canvas. This unique and valuable technique replicates the look and feel of a Terpning's original painting, including canvas texture and brushstrokes.

James Bama 'Waiting for the Grand Entry'
James Bama 'Waiting for the Grand Entry'
Every rodeo begins with a grand entry as the contestants and other riders follow the flag bearers in a serpentine course across the arena. At a junior rodeo in Cody, artist James Bama spotted Kenny Claybaugh waiting for the grand entry and was struck by the colourful combination of the yellow slicker, American flag and the dark glasses. Regarded as one of the sport's top pickup men, Claybaugh worked the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada, among many others. It is the pickup man's duty to rescue a rider from a pitching bronc after the required seconds have elapsed and the horn is blown to signal a completed ride. It is a highly responsible task demanding skill and nerve, as a misstep can result in a rider's falling and perhaps being trampled or slammed against an ungiving fence. The pickup horse must also be well trained so that it does not fear moving in close to the bronc's flying hoofs and does not shy away as pickup man and bronc rider reach for one another.

Howard Terpning 'Chased By The Devil'
Howard Terpning 'Chased By The Devil'
Three Apaches race to stay ahead of a dust devil, the desert hot-weather whirlwind full of dust and debris. These ethereal pillars of air and dirt have meandered the baked earth since the oceans first receeded. The white man speaks of thermals and explains them in dry meteorological terms, but the Apache knew better. He knew that the devil was inside the whirlwind, and that if you were caught you would soon die. Howard Terpning created a strong feeling of motion to convey the sense of the Apaches galloping their horses as hard as they could, which is emphasized by this awe--inspiring composition.

Bob Coronato 'The Horse Wrangler gather´d the morn'
Bob Coronato 'The Horse Wrangler gather´d the morn'
The Horse Wrangler Gather'd The Morning Mounts:
"One That Had'n Lived The Life ... Couldn't Paint a Picture ...
To Please The Eye, of One That Had!"

Like many kids, artist Bob Coronato grew up fascinated with the cowboy life. When he started to paint in earnest, he sold a painting to a man who thought he was good, but said he would be much better if he knew something about real cowboys. Upon graduating from Otis/Parsons Art School, he moved to Hulett,Wyoming (population 409) finding ranches that still "cowboy" in the old ways, realizing that the west he was searching for as a kid was still there, evidenced by Them's a Bunch-a Bronc Stomp'n...Sun
Fish'n...S.O.B.'s.
"I was once part of a brand crew that traveled with a 1880s chuck wagon," Coronato says of The Horse Wrangler... "Each evening, we would set the horses free to find water and grass. And each morning, before the sun came up, the horse wrangler rode out in the darkness to gather the horses from were they wandered the night before. As the ground started to shake and the wrangler drove the horses over the hill in the corral, I knew a long day was about to begin .... But I couldn't wait, it was like being part of a special history."

Howard Terpning 'Medicine Horse Mask'
Howard Terpning 'Medicine Horse Mask'
From Howard Terpning, one of the most important artists in America, comes a stunning new canvas featuring three Crow warriors preparing for an adventure. The head masks (or face masks) worn by horses were usually made for leading warriors and were considered medicine objects that gave power, protection and strength to the horse and its rider. The masks often had beautiful quill work, beads and feathered adornment and their design was sometimes inspired by a vision. Central to Native American medicine is the belief that each human, and every object, has a corresponding presence in the spirit world. These spirits can promote health, wisdom, and even success in battle. Don't pass up this chance to own a Howard Terpning limited edition.
